Hello there!

My name’s Adam Miller. I’m a podcaster, recipe writer and lover of all things baked based in Melbourne, Australia. You might also remember me from the 2023 season of the Great Australian Bake Off.

I love baking. I’ve loved it ever since my Mum let me lick the beaters when I was a kid.

Growing up in the Latrobe Valley (about 1.5 hours east of Melbourne, Australia) in the 90s, I was surrounded by classic baking, food and Dutch culture (my Mum’s parents emigrated from the Netherlands), which I didn’t fully appreciate until I was much older.

I’d always enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, watching Mum bake creations from her Australian Women’s Weekly cookbook library, and trying new foods at family dinner parties. As time passed and I went to uni, got a job and eventually moved to Melbourne, baking was always something I enjoyed but never something I fully embraced.

Then, in my early 30s, my Dad became unwell and spent a lot of time in hospital. It’s here that two things clicked into place for me. One: how baking creates connections to people around us, and moments in the past. And two: that I didn’t just enjoy baking – I LOVED it.

Over the next two years, as my Dad’s health declined, baking became both my creative outlet and my place of solace. I would often take my latest baking creations into the hospital to share with Dad, Mum, the hospital staff and any visitor who happened to come by. This became a ritual until my Dad passed away in 2018. Experiencing how a biscuit or a slice could bring some joy to an otherwise sorrowful time solidified the role of baking in my life, along with an understanding of food’s inherent connective nature.

Since then, I have been obsessed with baking and food. Baking, making, eating, learning – I love every last delicious crumb. This has included delving into my own food history - which young Adam in the 90s didn’t fully appreciate - has been a sheer delight. I’ve learnt so much about myself, my family and my family’s heritage all through the lens of food.

This is what led me to be a contestant and eventual finalist on the 2023 season of the Great Australian Bake Off, and to create my podcast, Bakeology.

It allows me to sit down with some fabulous people and learn more about them through the bakes they love and share these stories with my listeners. Laughs and delicious bakes are guaranteed, but the conversations often also uncover a long-forgotten memory or a new realisation that sparks a meaningful connection to their past. It’s these moments that I think make Bakeology truly special.

My hope is that when people listen, they’re not only entertained, but they uncover something new about their own baking and food history that adds a little joie de vivre to their baking, cooking and life.

I’m so excited to share the first two seasons of Bakeology with everyone, and I can’t wait to see where my baking and storytelling journey takes me next.

Drop me a line here if you’d like to work together and create something delicious, whether that be writing and recipe development, event hosting, podcasts or any tasty creative idea you have!
